    Technical editor, Tattenhall, Cheshire

    Overview

RSK Communication Services, an RSK company, is looking for an experienced editor to join its editorial team. We need someone who will be tough with writers (often non-native English speakers): someone who is not afraid of working on technical subjects, upholding internal and external standards, and banishing passive text, dangling participles and superlatives.

Our 30-year-old business creates corporate and business communications materials for external energy, technology and environmental companies, and for internal RSK companies. You would be working with a team of 20 writers, editors, proof readers and designers, and editing a broad range of collateral, from email invites and simple case studies to complex articles for technology journals. Work often comes in with little notice, so we need someone who can manage their time well and work flexibly.

The key responsibilities of this role include

    • digital editing: copy editing and substantive editing
    • proofreading
    • knowing and applying house styles for key clients.

    Essential experience and qualities

The successful candidate will be able to

    • demonstrate their ability to edit technical content to a high level of detail
    • work with writers, designers, project managers and, occasionally, clients
    • manage multiple documents and their time efficiently
    • use Office 365 (particularly Word) or earlier versions.

    Desirable experience and qualities

Ideally, the successful candidate will have

    • experience of editing technical marketing materials
    • oil and gas and/or engineering knowledge
    • experience of Adobe Creative Cloud (for text QC purposes).

    Salary and benefits

    • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
    • Contributory pension scheme
    • A flexible benefits programme, including the option to buy additional holidays and private health care
