    GIAS: Ground Investigation Archive System

Structural Soils recently developed an online, map based Geographic Information System (GIS) that provides access to our historical ground investigation reports. The archive is not yet complete, but currently holds records of ~ 11,000 projects dating from 1964 to 2015.GIAS enables our staff to search and download our historical records. These records are used to support our business in a number of ways, such as assisting in the design of new ground investigation works or for marketing purposes. We have need for an archivist that will help us continue the digitisation of our historical archive and bring this unique dataset fully up to date. The task will then continue to maintain the database as new reports are created. The successful candidate will need to extract relevant data such as site location and client details from historical paper reports in a logical and comprehensive fashion and enter these onto the company database system. The ability to check the quality and accuracy of data entry – both their own and that of others - is necessary. A rigorous approach to detail and ability to complete repetitive tasks without losing focus will be important. Training in the full archiving methodology and use of relevant software will be provided by the Structural Soils Data Management Team alongside mentoring and support throughout the archiving process.
