  • Overview

    RSK Response is a business unit within the RSK Group that specialises in the provision of environmental incident response services to a variety of clients and sectors across the UK. Due to increased workload, RSK Response is looking for an environmental incident and oil spill responder to join our growing team in Scotland.

     

    Successful candidates will preferably have experience in responding to and managing the clean up of environmental incidents, including oil spills, from environmental or industrial sectors. Broader experience or knowledge of environmental monitoring techniques is also welcomed. There will be opportunity for long term career progression within RSK Response and the wider RSK Group.

     

    This is a full time role that will require frequent travel, occasional stays away from home and working on an ‘On-Call’ rota basis.

     

    Environmental Incident Response Consultant – Glasgow

    (other central or southern Scotland locations may be considered)

     

    Responsibilities:

     

    The types of activities that the successful candidate could expect to be involved with include:

     

    • Development and adherence to specific and point of work health & safety risk assessments
    • Rapid response to environmental incidents in a variety of urban and rural settings
    • Pro-active assessment of risks to the environment and human health from incidents and spills to ground & water
    • Application of a variety of in-situ techniques for recovering oils or other contaminants of concern
    • Self confident liaison with client and co-contractors in determining a most appropriate technical response to incidents
    • Liaison with technical and managerial support regarding all incidents
    • On-going environmental monitoring activities including gas, vapours, soils and water sampling/monitoring
    • Application of risk assessment methodologies including development of conceptual site models and source-pathway-receptor linkages
    • Laboratory data assessment and interpretation
    • Waste management
    • Technical reporting
    • Project and financial management of incidents

    Person specification:

     

    These posts would ideally suit practically minded individuals with a mature and pro-active approach to work with a background in environmental or similar sectors. Ultimately, the individual must want to pursue a career within the Environmental Sector. Desirable qualities and skills include:

     

    • A strong focus on safety management
    • Excellent communication skills with co-workers, co-contractors and clients
    • A relevant degree in environmental, scientific or engineering field is preferred but not essential
    • Ability to write technical reports in a consistent and timely manner
    • Willingness to undertake additional training as business requirements dictate
    • Full clean driving licence as travel will be required
    • Confident to work on your own and on site
    • Happy to work across the UK from time to time to suit business needs
    • Flexible as regards to out of hours and weekend work.
