  • Overview

    The Materials & Structures team within RSK has been at the forefront of construction material condition assessments for over 40 years. During this time, we have gained unparalleled experience in evaluating different types of structures, environmental exposure conditions and deterioration mechanisms.


    RSK is currently recruiting for a motivated and dynamic individual who shows a willingness to learn new skills in the field of construction materials testing and analysis. They will be joining a well-established team of scientists, engineers and technicians at our UKAS accredited laboratories in Hemel Hempstead. The key skill sets of the team include the petrographic examination, chemical analysis and physical/mechanical testing of a wide range of construction materials such as concrete, mortar, aggregate, building stone and roofing slate.


    The key responsibilities of the individual are as follows: 

    • Become competent in the production of petrographic thin sections to assist our geoscientists in their microscopy work
    • Undertake British Standard chemical analysis and physical testing within our laboratories
    • Calibration of laboratory apparatus and instruments
    • Process and analyse data to produce test results for our wide client base 

    Desired experience


    Some degree of previous laboratory experience would be beneficial, but is not a prerequisite. We are interested in hearing from candidates that have an interest in science with a focus on geology and/or chemistry.

    Salary and benefits 

    • This is a full time post with typical core working hours 8:30 – 17:00
