    Ian Farmer Associates, a member of RSK Group Ltd, is a site investigation contractor with a large fleet of drilling equipment.  It is further supported by a fully accredited UKAS laboratory and together with the Geosciences division of RSK, the company makes RSK Group one of the UK’s largest site investigation service providers.  Due to an increase in workload Ian Farmer Associates currently have an immediate need for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to oversee a wide range of ground investigation activities with regard to programming, procurement, managing resources and financial support to geologists and engineers.


    Geotechnical Engineer / Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Redruth, Cornwall


    As an experienced member of the team you will be expected to lead or assist in the delivery of geotechnical projects and will therefore be able to demonstrate strong technical, commercial and project management capabilities.  More specifically, you will be responsible for: 


    • Managing ground and site investigation contracts including the production of interpretive reports
    • Reviewing geotechnical studies at feasibility stage of projects
    • Checking technical reports related to geotechnical engineering
    • Design and supervision of site investigation works and projects in the following sectors: house builders, commercial property developers, public sector bodies, manufacturing and industrial
    • Effectively communicating with clients and colleagues to build strong working relationships with the aim of meeting and exceeding client expectations
    • Manage projects to meet both commercial and technical requirements and delivering appropriate solutions wherever necessary
    • Assisting with identified and generation of new business opportunities
    • Stewardship of health and safety in accordance with company standards and guidelines 

    Desired experience


    • Typically +5 years experience.
    • Bachelors and ideally Master degree (not essential) in geology/civil engineering or a related environmental subject essential
    • Practical experience in supervising and managing Ground Investigations.
    • Excellent presentation and report writing skills
    • Able to plan and prioritise workload
    • Client driven with the ability to motivate and engage with immediate colleagues and those across the wider RSK business
    • Knowledge of contaminated land and planning legislation an advantage
    • Full, clean driving licence essential
    • Chartered status or working towards chartership a benefit 

    This interesting position will be based from our Redruth office however travel is expected anywhere in the UK supporting contracts at our other offices.
