Envirolab, a member of RSK Group plc, is an analytical laboratory with an outstanding track record for delivering analysis competitively and on time. The company provides environmental analytical services predominately of soil and groundwater samples. Because of recent expansion, the Cheshire lab is now looking to recruit an Asbestos & Laboratory Assistant to work in a UKAS and ISO 9001 standard accredited lab. 


Asbestos & Laboratory Assistant - Hyde, Cheshire


This post provides an opportunity for a wide range of individuals, from those returning to work after a career break to those looking for a career in an environmental laboratory. The successful applicant will assist various departments to ensure client needs are met. The principal responsibilities for this role are:

  • Assist with the preparation of soil samples awaiting asbestos analysis
  • Calibration of laboratory equipment
  • Archive and rotate sample waste
  • Conduct monthly air monitoring tests
  • Carry out weekly consumables audit
  • Disposal of samples and waste as per procedure
  • Washing of laboratory glassware
  • Assisting Laboratory Technicians with the preparation of soil and water samples ready for analysis
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the laboratory
  • Ensure all work completed is according to UKAS and Envirolab QMS requirements
  • Work within the confines of Envirolab’s safety policy paying due regard to the requirements for PPE at all time
  • Any other duties deemed reasonable for this position

All necessary training, including health & safety and PPE will be provided.


Desired experience


No previous chemistry or laboratory experience is required for this role. We are interested in hearing from candidates that are familiar with working in a process driven environment, are comfortable working off order lists and don’t mind getting their hands dirty.  There will be some manual handling involved in the role and will require moving heavy items on a frequent basis.

Salary and benefits


  • This is a full time post working 8am – 4:30pm
  • Salary – Minimum Wage
