Overview

RSK’s EHS Compliance team is a fast paced business which is part of a larger group of EHS professionals, with no two days the same. A typical day may include business development meetings; development of EHS operational management systems; auditing of client premises; supporting development clients through the planning process; development and delivery of training and specific legislative compliance support and advice both in the UK and abroad.

  

The company now has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Waste Management Consultant to join the team in the Northwest.  Working alongside an experienced team you will get involved with a vast array of development projects throughout the UK.

 

The RSK Group plc has a wide portfolio of clients in a number of sectors including rail, transport, water and property. In addition, we are particularly proud of the work that we have undertaken in the nuclear sector where over the last 3 years we have undertaken preliminary and main/intermediate phase site investigations at Hinckley Point and Wylfa on Anglesey. In 2014 the team were heavily involved in the detailed onshore ground investigation of the nuclear new-build at Wylfa, Anglesey culminating in winning Ground Investigation Project of the Year at the 2015 Ground Engineering Awards.

 

 

Senior Waste Management Consultant – Manchester or Cheshire

 

Main Function

 

A Senior Waste Management Consultant is responsible for undertaking a variety of project, business development and training activities across the RSK Group of companies. These may include waste assessment and classification, applications for environmental permits, auditing and providing advice on compliance with waste management legislation and internal and external training and advice relating to other environmental disciplines (eg. environmental management systems). All project work must be carried out with due diligence, adherence to RSK internal procedures & completed within the given cost budgets and timescales agreed with the client. Good communication is required to inform/liaise with the client periodically with updates & any issues raised. It is expected that employees working at this grade will have project management and finance skills, be client facing, self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, and work well within a team environment.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Undertaking and managing environmental permit applications, variations and surrenders for various types of waste facilities (including landfill sites)
  • Constructing waste recovery plans and Materials Management Plans under the CL:AIRE Code of Practice
  • Undertaking waste compliance audits and providing innovative solutions to issues relating to waste management and disposal
  • Providing technical authorship for the waste aspects of EIAs, NSIPs and other planning applications
  • Providing internal and external training relating to waste legislation
  • Undertaking Project Management duties and resolving any technical issues
  • Preparing health and safety documentation, liaising with subcontractors and scheduling soil samples for chemical testing for waste classification and WAC
  • Writing factual and interpretative reports

 

Person specification:

 

  • BSc degree level qualified in Geology, Chemistry, Environmental Science / Management or a related subject essential
  • Knowledge of and significant experience in environmental (waste) permitting and management systems relating to various types of waste facilities essential
  • WAMITAB Certificate of Technical Competence with current Certificate of Continuing Competence desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Definition of Waste: Development Industry Code of Practice and WRAP aggregates protocol desirable
  • Experience of undertaking waste compliance audits and providing guidance on waste legislation essential
  • Ability to liaise with regulators, clients and suppliers essential
  • Experience of undertaking waste assessments in compliance with WM3 and reviewing contaminated land reports desirable
  • Experience of preparing waste strategies, waste management plans and site waste management plans essential
  • Experience of developing the waste aspects of environmental management systems and Environmental Impact Assessments essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Prepared to work as part of a team or as an individual
  • Candidates must be willing to spend some of their working days away from the office at meetings, on site and away from home at times.
  • Full UK driving licence.
